Coaching Staff

Andy Eberhart
Head Coach

Eberhart has made his impact as the longest-tenured head coach in the Saints' men's basketball program, entering his 14th year at the helm this fall. In his first 13 seasons, the team has a combined overall record of 142-249 and a Midwest Collegiate Conference record of 65-109. He is closing in on his 150th career win in Clinton and has coached seven players with over 1,000 points in their Ashford careers, most recently in senior Daniel Joiner.

Joiner along with senior guard Josh Pickens landed on the Honorable Mention All-MCC squad under the guidance of Eberhart while four players made the annual Academic All-MCC team. He welcomes Pickens (student assistant) and another former player, Justin Jackson (assistant coach), to his coaching staff for the upcoming season.

During Eberhart's tenure, the Saints have had five NAIA All-Americans, 25 All-MCC performers, 44 Academic All-Conference players, and eight NAIA Academic All-Americans.

Eberhart has guided the Saints to an NAIA National Tournament appearance (2002), MCC Tournament Championship (2002) and a school record 20-win season with a share of the league title (1999).

In 2002, the fourth-seeded Saints (then Mount St. Clare) triumphed over top-seeded St. Ambrose at the MCC Championships, and defeated No. 4 seed Iowa Wesleyan College in the finals for the league title and an exemption into the NAIA Div. II Basketball Championship.

Eberhart is a graduate of Waldorf College where he was a two-year varsity player. He went on to the University of Northern Iowa and received his bachelor's degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in coaching. He earned his master's degree in Athletic Administration from Loras College.

Eberhart and his wife, Cathy, reside in Clinton and have twin daughters, Madison and McKenna.

Justin Jackson
Assistant Coach

Justin Jackson, a native of Madison, Wis., joins the men's basketball coaching staff in his first year as assistant coach this fall, a position he was elevated to in mid-June. Jackson previously served as a student assistant for the 2008-09 campaign.

Jackson acquired his coaching certification from Iowa Lakes Community College on the Estherville campus following a successful two-year playing career. With the Lakers, he averaged almost seven points per game to go along with four rebounds and two assists, before transferring to Ashford.

In his two years with the Saints, he started 50 of the team's 56 games while serving as captain during his senior campaign. He was named Honorable Mention All-MCC following his senior year in which he averaged 9.1 points per game and 6.1 rebounds (seventh in MCC) per contest.

Jackson wrapped up his playing career under Head Coach Andy Eberhart and was a graduate of Madison East High School and has coached an AAU team, Badger Sporting Goods, in Madison over the past few summers before landing at Ashford.

Jackson graduated in December of 2008 from Ashford with his bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Josh Pickens
Assistant Coach

Pickens is set to join the Ashford men's basketball staff as a student assistant coach this fall following a strong two-year career competing for the Saints.

A two-year transfer from Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill., Pickens had plenty of highlights during his stint at Ashford, including sinking game-winning shots against the University of Sioux Falls, Culver-Stockton College, University of St. Francis and Mt. Mercy College.

Pickens showed off his long-range prowess as a marksman, ranking third in the Midwest Collegiate Conference in three-point field goals made (70) as a senior. He went on to earn league distinction as an Honorable Mention All-MCC pick and was voted as the team's Most Valuable Player at the annual awards banquet.

A graduate of Jefferson High School in Rockford, Ill., Pickens went on to be a two-time First-Team All-Conference honoree while at Rock Valley College.

Pickens is set to graduate this December with his bachelor's degree in Social Science.
